Did You Know...
That Peter Simon and Genevive Gallou Simon were married in 1874, in France? According to the Clearfield County, PA Federal Census of 1900, Peter “head of family” immigrated in 1882 and wife “Jennie” immigrated in 1883 with children Frank & Mary A. Simon, listing 14 children, 12 living. Also, identifies the three oldest boys living at home in 1900, Frank, Louis & Philip, (ages 19, 16 & 14,) as Coal Miners. The younger ones were listed "At School," except for the babies, (age 4 and twin girls, age 1.) Peter Simon, also a Coal Miner, died Nov. 12, 1900 (at age 51) a few months after moving to Hastings, PA. Baby Margaret, b. Feb. 4, 1899, Houtzdale, PA, died Dec. 26, 1900 (1 yr. 10 mos.). Her twin, Genevieve Catherine, lived to age 60. Genevive Gallou Simon died June 28, 1932 (age 78) in Hastings, PA; her headstone, in St. Bernard Cemetery, was marked as Jenieve Simon.

That Louis Gallou, younger brother of Genevive Gallou Simon was our grandpa Peter M. Simon’s Uncle Lewie, the owner of Gallou’s store, a co-op clothing store, in Hastings, PA. Peter Simon & Anna Kovach met at Gallou’s store. Peter worked for his Uncle making deliveries. Anna Kovach worked inside as a clerk.
